Entry Level IT Generalist in Boston, MA

The Entry-Level IT Generalist is responsible for the day-to-day operations of our client's technology systems and infrastructure. This position requires knowledge of client- and server-side systems required for daily success of the client. The IT Generalist is the first responder for all technical support needs, and provides troubleshooting for hardware, software, voice and data systems. This position maintains current documentation for data control, training, security, IT inventory, licensing, and other IT administrative procedures. The Entry-Level IT Generalist reports to the Director of Information Technology.

Responsibilities

Technical Support
• Provide excellent and timely technical support for systems including but not limited to: Server (backup, system logs, UPS, etc.) PCs and laptops (hardware, software, upgrades, etc.) Database systems (FileMaker, QuickBooks, data integrity)
o Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access). Printers and accessories (PDAs, scanners, etc.)
o E-mail: mail hosting, Exchange Server
o Connectivity: network, ISP; wireless
o Remote access/Terminal Server
o Branch offices
o Phone and voice mail systems
 Work with Office Administration as needed on phone line installation and troubleshooting
• Provide technical support to SBV users on same as above as needed.
• Liaise with IT consultant.
• Troubleshoot and act as point person for equipment requiring outside service calls (folding machines, copiers, etc.)
• Create and use tracking system and reference repository for support issues.
• Meet quarterly goals for performance improvements for technical support (TBD).

System Administration
• Back-up server daily.
• Reboot server weekly – provide assistance and backup to IT Director.
• Update servers – provide assistance and backup to IT Director.
o Server anti-virus upgrades
o Database upgrades
o Windows Updates
• Add, delete, disable user accounts in Active Directory, database systems, and e-mail systems.
• Configure PCs, laptops and mobile devices for users (new users; new hardware/software/accessories).
• Maintain testing environment and use for testing new client/server technology (software, hardware, servers).
• Maintain database inventory, country list, cities list, administrative staff list, and additional database administration lists to be determined.
• Assist IT Director with server-side technologies, including but not limited to: Exchange Server, FileMaker Server, Firewalls, Internet Information Server.


IT Administrative Systems and Procedures
• Maintain IT inventory documentation.
• Maintain in-house technical support tracking forms and knowledgebase.
• Assist with IT purchases.
• Assist with maintenance of IT budget.

Other
• Marketing: provide technical assistance to Marketing Associates on direct mail and other collateral; maintain website as needed.
• Training: train new users on Office, FileMaker, network drives, general PC use, and general phone and voice mail use; maintain training documentation.
• Assist with ad-hoc reporting, including annual utilization reporting for business plan.
