As a Senior UNIX Engineer, you will be at the forefront of knowledge in the Unix space as a Systems Engineer. You will be part of the UNIX engineering team and will have responsibilities for architecting and designing the UNIX and future Linux environments. Your role includes the identification of new technology, developing UNIX and Linux strategies, developing multi-year plans, evaluating technology options, project managing large projects, and providing day to day 3rd-level support. Applications running on our UNIX servers include Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas Cluster Server, EMC TimeFinder, EMC Symmetrix Remote Data Facility, CommVault Galaxy backup, BMC Patrol, BEA WebLogic, and IBM Webshere MQ Series.



Duties/Responsibilities



  • Provide thought leadership on all UNIX and Linux technologies and products


  • Work with application teams on designing AIX, Solaris, and Linux environments that meet application requirements


  • Collect and analyze company-wide requirements


  • Identify areas of exposure and derive corrective actions


  • Create and communicate UNIX and Linux standards


  • Guide technology product selections, system design, and implementation activities on UNIX platforms


  • Lead the design discussions associated with options including autonomous data center, grid computing, and introduction of Linux into the portfolio


  • Create and maintain UNIX and Linux product evaluation and testing documentation


  • Provide technical consultations and presentations to IT as needed


  • Perform post-implementation 3rd-level support, identifying root cause with strategic solutions to problems


  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal clients within the business and within Information Services

Experience: Required Background/Experience



  • Bachelor's degree


  • 10+ years experience in the design, implementation, and support of high-impact, high-investment, and mission-critical projects


  • Strong understanding of File Systems, Replication, and Clustering


  • Comprehensive knowledge of operating system internals, inter-networking tools, and utilities on the following flavors of UNIX:


    • IBM AIX


    • Sun Solaris


    • Redhat or Suise LINUX, preferably Redhat




  • Expert knowledge of the following technologies:


    • Sun Solaris


    • Veritas Volume Manager and Cluster Server


    • EMC TimeFinder and Symmetrix Remote Data Facility


    • Advanced storage technologies from EMC, Network Appliance, Hitachi, and other emerging vendors
