Network Engineer (5162) in Boston, MA

Network Engineer to serve at U. S. Coast Guard ESU Boston, MA site. The network engineer will diagnose system failure to isolate the source of problems between equipment, network, system software, and application programs. The Network Engineer will provide technical assistance to Information Resource Management support staffs and other Coast Guard personnel and provide technical support in the area of SWIII connectivity/interoperability with other computer platforms. Must have minimum of 2 years specialized experience with TCP/IP local area networks for networked personal computer running Windows NT or Windows XP/.NET and MS Exchange or Outlook Mail products. A minimum of 3 years experience providing network development, administration, and support for TCP/IP local area networked for networked personal computer running Windows NT or Windows XP/.NET. Experience providing user with informal training and advanced technical support as well as guidance for further technical evaluation, implementation, and advance training. Other duties:
-Install system upgrades upon receipt.
-Set up and use disaster recovery procedures in accordance with appropriate plans.
-Monitor system performance & recommended changes.
-Perform a selective and/or full system backup.
-Restore the system using a backup.
-Install bundled software on the system.
-Restore system to normal operations after software application failures.
-Provide training on use of Standard Workstation.
-Manage mail center and MS Exchange server on a daily basis
-Maintain distribution lists.
-Install mail and gateway software upgrades.
-Install communications software.
-Maintain internet access (SMTP).
-Maintain X.400 Message Handling System (MHS).
-Back up E-Mail System.
-Configure Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS).
-Configure and maintain E-Mail bulletin boards and reflectors.
-Create a local mail center to use E-Mail.
-Configure, install and maintain other software adjunct to the mail system.
-Create bulletin boards, public folders and distribution lists.
-Replicate public folders.
-Prepare technical recommendations/solutions for Coast Guard use.
-Installation/De-installation of equipment (including routers, hubs, network cords).
-Provide user support for Remote Access software.
-Plan and implement network upgrades on all system upgrades
-Monitor network performance.
-Recommend configuration changes and network upgrades.
-Work with remote sites to establish and maintain WAN connectivity.
-Design LANs for remote sites.
-Perform diagnostic testing between network components.
-Maintain network security.
-Install, configure, and maintain FTP server(s).
-Provide technical and administrative support to IT working groups/activities as required.
-Maintain and assign IP addresses to network devices.

Requires Bachelors degree or equivalent and 5 years of related experience; or a minimum 8 years of experience.

Specific Skills Required:
* Certifications in NT Exchange, MS Windows 2000 and/or XP
