AIX Systems Engineer in Boston, MA

Our client is seeking an AIX Systems Engineer to join their team. BASIC FUNCTION: Responsibilities include evaluating, implementing and maintaining multiple UNIX AIX system configurations (hardware & software) within a highly available clustered environment. Additional responsibilities include requisite day-to-day activities such as monitoring, automation, performance tuning, security/patch update analysis and disaster recovery preparedness. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Strong analytical/troubleshooting and organizational skills, capable of resolving software and hardware issues on the IBM pSeries platform configured with multiple LPAR's and versions of the AIX operating system. Essential tasks include: Manual and automated operating systems installation on RS/6000 hardware including various versions of AIX in a multi-LPAR environment, including maintaining and restoring system images System license management, including adding and deleting node-locked licenses and managing multiple server licenses on equipment running in multiple facilities Device management, including adding, changing, and configuring physical and logical devices (including hot-plugs) Shell programming and use of automated scripting packages (KSH, Perl, etc) for system administration and software installation, management General AIX system administration and troubleshooting skills, including patch management, process management, sub-servers, command line utilities, etc Installation, configuration, and management of systems packages including Veritas Netbackup and various systems management tools (SMIT), etc Configuration of multiple logical subsystems utilizing IBM HCM, including LPAR configuration and sizing, dynamic sizing of LPAR's, resource allocation with thresholds, etc Installation, configuration, and management of TCP/IP protocol stack on various versions of AIX, including LPAR and DLPAR configurations, including configuration and management of all network communication services (NFS, DNS, etc) Disk and volume management experience, including IBM LVM and Veritas Volume Manager on local disk and EMC Clariion storage arrays Disk path management experience, including SDDPCM, EMC PowerPath, and Veritas Volume Manager, on local disk and EMC Clarion storage arrays Installation, configuration, and management of interoperability with network disk and shares (EMC NS700, Windows shares, etc) Installation, configuration, and management of LDAP and Kerberos authentication on AIX systems integrating with Microsoft Active Directories, including local security configuration and account privileges design and interoperability Familiarity with native AIX job scheduling packages for system administration and system resource management, including use of Power Management and Workload Manager Familiarity with application installation onto AIX systems, including Oracle database, Veritas Cluster Services/Global Cluster Option, and advanced installations of Oracle RAC running with Veritas Cluster software Skills/Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS: Preparation, Knowledge, Previous Experience: Thorough understanding of IBM pSeries servers running various versions of AIX operating system with multiple critical applications Minimum five years experience working on AIX platforms in medium / large organizations having segregated development/test, QA, Staging and production environments. Level of Education Required: Bachelor Degree in Computer Science preferred or equivalent relevant work experience and/or hardware/software certification(s). WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS 40 Hour work-week, Monday-Friday Potential for weekend and night work on occasion and as normally scheduled depending on business load and project timeline requirements. Required to support unscheduled or urgent events outside of business hours. Office environment working with personal computer for potentially long periods of time May be required to carry pager and be available "on-call".
