Systems Administrator in BOSTON, MA

The Systems Engineer is responsible for ensuring support of VMware ESX Infrastructure and Windows systems, configuring and installing hardware and operating system software components. The incumbent is responsible for assessing and integrating risk management procedures for equipment and systems throughout the enterprise, through the IT operations function. The Systems Engineer interfaces across several channels, and seeks out business, technical, and infrastructure issues, identifying potential areas of risk. The incumbent will have significant exposure to users and interfaces with users, management, and outside vendors.

Experience: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
&#149; Support Windows operating systems, configuring and installing computer hardware and operating system software.
&#149; Tune and validate Windows systems, troubleshooting and resolving problems and outages.
&#149; Work extensively with development staff (all applications), and assist in resolution of hardware/software platform problems in complex, layered, client/server-based software.
&#149; Assign system logon passwords and maintain software logs and system software installation media.
&#149; Provide backups of available servers/software/applications.
&#149; Frequently interact with third-party technology vendors and internal facilities staff.
&#149; Interact with database staff (Oracle Database Administrators and System Programmers).
&#149; Manage electronic messaging and telephony components, as they pertain to the operating systems environment.
&#149; Maintain library of documentation for system software.
&#149; Understand strategic business continuance initiatives as keys to maintaining a high availability of IT services to reduce financial impact of downtime on product/customer cycle.
&#149; Eliminate system downtime, respond to system failures in a timely way and monitor and test contingency planning processes and procedures.
&#149; Anticipate problems and work closely with management to identify areas with risk potential.
&#149; Implement standards and maintain a high level of user trust and confidence in the group&#146;s knowledge of and concern for users&#146; business needs and the critical nature of seamless IT functioning for internal and external users.
