Systems Security Administrator in Boston, MA

Experience: PRIMARY FUNCTION(S):
Conducts Information Systems Security activities in the Federal Government sector in non-classified environment. Provides risk analysis, contingency and disaster recovery planning and implementation. Demonstrates in depth knowledge of Federal ISS regulations and guidelines. Evaluates and recommends computer industry hardware and software products for ISS. Implements computer virus prevention, detection and elimination.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Leads operational security initiatives for securing, investigating, documenting, and architecting the network, including the following:

&#149; Development and implementation of Security Architecture Designs

&#149; Performance of forensics activities for security related incidents and investigations carried out on the network

&#149; Planning for Continuity of Operations and leading operational security aspects of Disaster Recovery testing at off-site facilities.

&#149; Development and implementation of recommendations for improvements of site security through performance of vulnerability assessments, including evaluation of results of system scans and IDS, firewall, and security logs and on-site investigations. Support scanning efforts by running scans, ensuring compliance and remediation of systems, and building policies and scripts for these tools based on the latest security guidance.
&#149; Researching system security issues and topics and preparing "white papers.** Complete risk assessments and similar documentation on task-related subject matters

&#149; Support for the development and maintenance of a security Alert Notification system for assessing the latest security threats, validating patches and updates that are needed on Volpe Center systems, and ensuring updates occur by system administrators

&#149; Support the evaluation and maintenance of an Intrusion Detection System for the Volpe Center, including monitoring of the latest security threats, implementation of security policy updates, and analysis of system logs to ensure any detected threats are mitigated

&#149; Monitoring of firewall rules and policies to ensure compliance with the latest security guidance



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
&#149; 10+ years experience in information security

&#149; 5+ years experience managing information security staff.

&#149; Significant IT Forensics and Disaster Recovery experience

&#149; Experience in penetration testing and risk assessments

&#149; In depth knowledge and skills in information security equipment to include use and configuration of vulnerability assessment tools, Intrusion Detection Systems, and Firewalls.

&#149; Experience with multiple operating systems, including Windows, Unix, and Linux.

&#149; Strong written and verbal communication skills

&#149; Ability to work well with people in a diverse environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

&#149; CISSP or GIAC Certification

&#149; ISS Federal knowledge and experience, preferably in DOT arena

&#149; Solid understanding of the build procedures and patching
processes for Windows, Unix, and Linux environments

&#149; Significant experience with developing and implementing network security architectures
Solid understanding of the security architecture for multiple operating systems.

&#149; Experience with ISS, Nessus, and Foundstone vulnerability scanning systems
Experience with Symantec firewall technology and Cisco switches and routers
