Computer Applications Engineer in Boston, MA

The Computer Applications Engineer supports various power plant computer applications. These include PI data historian, SCADA system, work management system, dispatch systems, plant performance monitoring systems, and other computer applications. This is a full-time position.

The ideal candidate for this position will have 5 years experience working on industrial (preferably power plant) computer applications. While experience with our specific applications would be a plus, we would be looking for someone who has supported many applications and has an ability to learn new applications. Intelligence, curiosity, good communications skills, and work ethic are more important that a specific knowledge of any specific system.
Experience: RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
1. Maintain databases and develop displays for computer systems.
2. Develop and maintain system and user documentation.
3. Work with OSIsoft's PI System, updating data base, calculations, and displays.
4. Support SCADA, dispatch, work management, security, and other computer systems
5. Trouble shoot application problems associated with meters, network connectivity, database, calculations or displays.
6. Work with end users to train them on the use of the systems and improve systems.
7. Support phone, voice recording, and other communication systems.
8. Manage data backup and recovery systems.
9. Ability to work with sensitive, highly confidential equipment.
10. Assume IT Manager responsibilities in the event of IT Manager's absence.
11. Provide system support off hours, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform the job successfully, an individual will demonstrate the following qualifications and competencies to perform the essential functions of this position:
1. Minimum of an Associated Degree in an Engineering related discipline or Computer Science. Bachelors Degree in Engineering would be ideal.
2. 5 years experience in industrial settings, preferably in the power industry.
3. Strong knowledge of software application support and networking.
4. Problem solving - identifies and resolves problems by gathering and analyzing information.
5. Quality management - exhibits attention to detail and ability to provide consistently excellent work, constantly works to improve quality of IT Systems.
6. Communication skills - able to effectively communicate with co-workers and end users
7. Planning/organizing - the individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently to provide 24 hour, 7 days a week systems support to power plant operation.
8. Adaptability - the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
9. Dependability - consistently at work and on time, responds to management direction.
10. Safety and security-actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures.
