Director of Development in Boston, MA

Position overview

The Development Manager will be responsible for leading a skilled team of software developers in support of Acadian's research, portfolio construction, operations, client service, reporting, and performance teams. This person will work directly with CTO to help shape the technology strategy and direction for the development and support of a variety of applications. This person will be expected to effectively manage people, including building and developing skilled teams, directing and motivating the teams at an appropriate level of detail, and ensuring a service oriented approach. In addition, this person will understand and help shape the future direction of Acadian's business and collaborate with the business leaders to ensure their needs are met.

Responsibilities

This role will:
.Establish and enforce development standards
.Facilitate and lead the selection of common technology platforms.
.Facilitate periodic code reviews.
.Work with Program Manager to effectively allocate development resources to projects
.Provide technology leadership to Acadian by developing long-term goals and strategies.
.Manage application development teams, including resource planning, staffing and recruiting activities; manage the performance and development of associates, including meeting with staff and supervisors regularly to understand needs and opportunities for growth and development.
.Keep abreast of industry trends and new technologies.
.Establish and ensure consistent, quality architectural standards and practices.
.Participate in development of long-term goals and strategies.
.Identifying business and technology solutions to meet Acadian's needs.
.Work with Acadian's remote operations in Asia.
.Participate or lead initiatives such as process refinement and improvement in project management or systems development.

Experience:
Qualifications

The Development Manager must have minimum of 10 years experience in managing IT, primarily in planning, development and support. Experience in related technology areas such as architecture or infrastructure are an advantage. In addition, the position requires:
.Management experience in a large, complex IT environments.
.Experience with multi-platform technical environment and long term technology projects.
.Experience in the asset management industry is a very significant plus.
.Strong management skills with experience managing at least 25 direct and indirect employees.
.Ability to collaborate with peers and business leaders.
.Solid technology skills in a broad range of applications development tools and technologies.
.Strong project and process management skills, including vendor management and software package implementation.
