Overview
The purpose of this role is to ensure that we have an intermediary between Application Support and the Development team to help address Production issues as they arise. This person's responsibilities and qualifications will better position the candidate to carry out a number of tasks that will a) further improve the issue-resolution time, b) enable the Development team to focus on releases of upcoming products.
The candidate filling this role will also need to keep abreast of all new functionality as it is developed. To accomplish this, the developer will (1) monitor and troubleshoot issues relating to internal environments that often surface due to deployment issues or cross-department miscommunication, and (2) take "passive" development role by participating in select architecture design review meetings.
We are expecting that the knowledge level this candidate will have regarding J2EE will enable him or her to address most defects required for production patches.
Responsibilities of J2EE Developer for Production Support include:
- Troubleshoot issues escalated by Application Support.
- Involvement in the troubleshooting of builds deployed to inner environments to help familiarize himself/herself with new functionality before deployment to Production.
- Identify common patterns around Production issues and prioritize proposed changes accordingly.
- Monitor and troubleshoot pre-release deployments on internal environments.
- Suggest process improvements to improve issue resolution times and developer awareness regarding resolution support.
- Evaluate (RnD) monitoring/administration/etc.. tools to improve issue resolution efficiency and issue anticipation.
- Document/communicate issue resolution to ensure knowledge sharing among the team.
J2EE Technical Support Specialist Qualifications:
- Excellent J2EE knowledge/development skills, including EJB, Struts, JSPs
- Exceptional problem solving skills.
- Good communication and written skills.
- Experience interacting with product vendors for issue resolution.
- 2-4 years experience with Java application support.
- J2EE Application server knowledge
- Knowledge of UNIX shell utilities (PERL, grep, diff, vi, etc.)
- Basic working SQL knowledge.
- General understanding of internet network technologies.
- Ability to contribute to defect fixes.
- Team player.
- Ability to work independently.
- Must show good initiative and follow-through.
- Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical people.
