SAN Engineer in Boston, MA

Position overview
The SAN Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support in distributed computing architecture development including design, implementation and deployment. The SAN Engineer will be responsible for deploying and refining technology advances for storage area networks (SAN), enterprise backup and archiving, and restoration to help meet contract requirements and service levels.

Responsibilities
.Ensure system recoverability from any failure as per the service level agreement
.Maintain SAN, storage, and backup hardware and software currency
.Ensure storage infrastructure is scalable.
.Install, configure, and support new SAN, storage, and backup devices and maintain these devices to ensure optimal performance and utilization
.Document technical solutions, methodologies, and standard operating procedures
.Implement new storage technology into existing infrastructure
.Pull together appropriate parties, including vendors to ensure timely resolution of incidents
.Analyze SAN, storage, and backup architecture and/or topology for improvements and implement changes


Experience: Qualifications
Candidates must have a strong technical background, strong written and oral communication skills, project management skills, and the ability to work independently as well as within a team environment. This person must have a strong systems administration background with at least 5 years of experience.
Working knowledge of Active Directory, Windows 2003, TCP/IP networks and network troubleshooting is an advantage. Understanding of server hardware architecture and Windows networking is expected. Experience with Dell, HP and EMC hardware is a plus. Ability to spot problematic areas, analyze solutions, propose resolutions and direct their implementation is essential. A successful candidate is a motivated self-starter with an aptitude for learning new skills and environments quickly while multi-tasking on more than one deliverable.

.Bachelor's degree is required
.A+ certification is a plus
.Experience with Enterprise backup products, Commvault in particular
.EMC Symmetrix, EMC Clarion
.Solaris, NT/2000/2003 in a large complex multi-platform environment.
.VERITAS Netbackup, VERITAS Storage Foundation
.McData SAN Switches, McData SanNavigator and Cisco SAN Switches
.Hands on experience scaling in a fiber channel SAN with multiple servers, switch fabrics and storage frames.

.Ability to do performance monitoring and analysis for storage across multiple operating systems environments (Solaris, Windows).
.Ability to work proficiently in UNIX and Windows operating systems environments.


Must have a solid understanding of the following:
.Operating systems in use (Windows NT/2000/2003, IBM AIX, SUN Solaris, HP UX, Linux)

.Unix files system and networking concepts
.VERITAS volume management software
.Storage performance monitoring and tuning concepts
.Storage Area Network and Network Area Storage designs and principles
.Hardware administration and support for McData storage switches
.System back-up and restores principles and products, and principles, practices, and administration of technical issues.
Secondary technologies (mastery or familiarity with preferred):

.Financial services applications such as: Aegis Barra, trade order management systems, Reuters/Bloomberg data feeds, Zacks, IBES, FactSet, StatPro, MarketQA, LatentZero
.VMware
.Exchange 2003
.Storage area networks
