DBA SQL Server in Boston, MA

Reporting to the Director of Information Systems and Technologies, the senior database administrator will administer, support, enhance, and evolve the companies Business Objects environment, DataMirror Transformation Server configuration and SQLServer databases to support ongoing business operations as well as advancements in the business.

Responsibilities:

Monitor SQL database performance, recommend, and implement performance tuning, analyze access patterns and recommend application changes to optimize capacity, latency, and throughput
Oversee DataMirror functionality between AS400 and SQL environment. Provide support for production and corporate databases
Design schemas, stored procedures, and access methods to database underlying a revenue-critical 24x365 production booking service
Support database consolidation and data migrations initiatives
Identify database requirements by interviewing stakeholders; analyzing department applications, programming, and operations; evaluating existing systems and designing proposed systems
Improve upon existing solutions by continuously refining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications
Interface with database vendors to work issues, maintain consistency of data and data feeds from outside vendors
Serve as the subject matter expert instituting best practices and answering technical and procedural questions for less experienced team members; teaching improved processes; mentoring team members
Works effectively with co-workers by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner
Listens to and objectively considers ideas and suggestions from others
Consistently maintain on time and accurate weekly reports for effectiveness
Keeps others informed of work progress, timetables and issues
Addresses problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical business solutions

Requirements

A Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or related field and at least 7 years of experience in database administration and development
Extensive database experience in MS SQLServer and Business Objects and DataMirror or like kind applications
Skills in database configuration, high availability design, data access optimization, and high performance database interface design
A team player with excellent communication skills is essential
Self-motivated and largely self-directed
Flexibility with respect to work mix, work load, schedules, and environment
Intimate knowledge of Windows 2003 server and Active Directory
Excellent oral and written communication skills
