Business Systems Analyst in Boston, MA

JOB SUMMARY:



Gathers, reviews, analyzes, and evaluates business systems and user needs. Writes detailed description of user needs, program functions, and general requirements. Good understanding of relational database concepts and client-server concepts. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Working with limited managerial oversight, the Business Systems Analyst is responsible for fielding requests from users, analyzing those requests, producing specifications, testing, documenting, and training both the end-user and the User Support Department on the end product. Train and assist the other Programmer/Analysts in all these functions is also key to this role. The Business Systems Analyst will understand and promote key concepts relating to business systems analysis and will stay up to date on trends and happenings in the marketplace.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



1. Work with members of the firm and IT to define, understand, analyze, and evaluate business systems and user, department, practice group needs relating to technology solutions and systems.

2. Develops documentation of group and user needs, and systems requirements specifications

3. Establish and maintain processes, best practices, and metrics relating to business systems analysis. This will include items such as working to establish standards for business analysis relating to project assessment, data modeling, and design considerations.

4. Provide assistance, training and backup to the other IT personnel in the areas of project scoping, technical assessment, and project analysis.

5. Establish and maintain strong communications with users and vendors.

6. Work closely with IT and user during entire project and product lifecycle to ensure success and completion of the work.



Requirements:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:



Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field

Minimum 3 years of experience in business systems analysis

Must be both a self-starter and a team player and have excellent communication skills

7. Work closely with user and IT staff to determine metrics for success for each project.

8. Work with members of the firm, with a strong focus on financials, to develop specifications and functional requirements for reports and presentation of data.

9. Provide basic project management functions for smaller projects and activities including but not limited to project scoping, resource recommendation, and skill alignment.
