Financial Systems Director (Oracle) in Boston, MA

72619 This is a great opportunity to work with a large Boston based company to help build and manage their Oracle Applications environment. You should have a strong background with Oracle Financials and previous experience supporting the accounting side of a business.

The Director, Systems is responsible for the strategy, design, development, integrity and maintenance of the companys financial applications (primarily the Oracle integrated financial suite).

Scope of the Job:
The Financial Systems Director is viewed as the Companys primary owner of Oracle Financials (and other financial applications). This position is responsible for the development of the enterprise-wide reporting strategy and analysis (to drive all system and information requirements and for financial system improvements, conversions and upgrades). This position is responsible for identifying needed enhancements to and/or introduction of new tools where necessary. This position is responsible for identifying gaps in requirements and determining the appropriate mitigation. This position is also responsible for determining the impact of such projects on reporting, consolidation, budgeting and forecasting. This position will participate in and/or make key system decisions and be responsible for prioritizing and sequencing all financial system enhancements.

Work Performed:
The primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Acting as Key Liaison with the IT Function via active participation in and/or direction of various development, project office and QA teams.
Overall strategy, design, development, integrity and maintenance of the Companys financial applications. The Oracle integrated financial suite includes:
Project direction/management of numerous, concurrent, enterprise-wide financial systems projects including, but not limited to:
Development and management of detailed project plans (e.g. implementation of new financial systems, setting design requirements, establishment of project plans and timelines, orchestrating meetings & work sessions, communications, system testing, data validation and ultimately resolution of issues arising from testing and the post-implementation phase)
Periodic reporting against detailed project plans.
Management of internal and external resources.

The Director, Systems manages in a matrix environment having direct and indirect management responsibilities and partnering responsibilities with the user communities. Specifically the Director, Systems is directly responsible for:

Managing 3 people including a Systems Project Manager and 2 Systems Analysts.
Acting as a Primary Liaison/Influencer with internal IT Function management and staff.
Managing varying numbers of systems consultants.
Managing relationships with the user communities of the various financial systems, including understanding their needs, managing their expectations and balancing multiple priorities.

Education Required:
Qualified candidates are required to have a B.S. in Accounting/Finance that is ideally combined with a degree in Information Systems. Possessing an MBA or an advanced degree(s) or certificate(s) in technology is also a plus.

Skills/Knowledge Required:
Qualified candidates must have significant project management skills and an extensive knowledge in the area of enterprise-wide system selection, implementation, conversion, upgrade, and maintenance. Ideal candidates would be proficient in financial application software and possess TQM experience. In addition, qualified candidates will possess the ability to analyze problems, actively strategize and participate in developing innovative solutions, good attention to detail, solid organizational skills, the ability to teamwork, a strong internal control mindset and strong communication skills (both written and oral).

Important Prior Experiences Required:
While specific industry knowledge is not required, the qualified candidate would have 10-15 years of prior experience (including director-level experience with a well known technology consulting firm and/or within the finance systems function of a large publicly-held, multi-national organization). A qualified candidate would have significant experience with the installation, conversion and/or upgrade of enterprise-wide financial systems.
